So let's take it back to the beginning...When did you first become interested in music?

I’ve been playing music since 10.  In Chicago there is the Bud Biliken Back To School Parade that would go past my house every year.  I always loved the drums because my Uncle played in High School and college band, but the parade was my first calling to play and perform on a grand stage.  From that point I’ve been playing anything I can get my hands on, keys, guitar, bass, beats, mixers, but I Speak on a DrumSet!

When it comes to your beats, what motivates/inspires you?

Sounds and rhythms and overall feel.  I used to sample a lot but now have players come in and mix those sounds more.  But for my artists a lot of the times I get other producers involved and mix those, it gives the records a different flare.  I’m open to anything that sounds good!

What do you consider your biggest accomplishment?

As an artist, starting this record label.  I’ve had success with rock bands, hip hop groups, as a solo electronic artist, etc.  But the most joy I’ve had is helping other artists make great music and hopefully take their talent to the next level… while making some hit records!

Whats the best piece of advice that has been ever given to you?

It’s not what you know, and its not what you don’t know… its what you don’t know that you don’t know!

Who are your favorite producer of all time?

Quick Jones close second is Dr. Dre.

What are your thoughts on how things are going in the music industry right now?

I have several thoughts… One is I love the streaming world and the internet of things, because it has leveled the playing field in a sense, where people are consuming music is all the same, iTunes, Spotify, and Soundcloud.  Yeah you can distribute to over 5000.. blah blah blah.. everyone consumes music from those three…. IMO. So Now instead of manufacturing 1 million records to sell 1 million, and put the in every store worldwide, you just need to upload a file!  Now where I don’t like where the industry is currently, is that the files people are uploading are trash half the time… IMO. Making the market of what is “hit music” skewed.  Needless to say again why I don’t censor my artists music, completely, I just make the song sounds the best that it can.

What are your future long-term goals in life?

Ultimately for my label to continue to make hit records hoping that one will stick and catapult any of my artists to the next level!

What’s one artist you would want to work with and why?

Kendrick Lamar!  I feel he would bring out another level of artist in me while producing.  When I produce I strip away a lot of my artistry to take a trees forest type of approach to the song, but with Kendrick his artistry would bounce off of mine where the song would produce it self and we’d sit back like DAMN! (part 2)

Any new projects coming out soon? what can we expect from this projects?

Currently working on EP’s and Albums for all the artists on my label- TOMMY, Prince Eshan, Nomad Chad, Cozzee, NHS N.I.K.E., NHS Deno, also newly signed artist DJ ONE-A.  So lots of good music coming this year from Monolog Records.

Thank you very much for your time Dr. Jones. Anything else you want to add?

Just always be kind to each other, and make sure you follow us @monologrecords everywhere!
