Shai Sevin explores new territory on “NDD”, a self-produced Bandcamp-exclusive is out now.
Short for “Never Did Drill”, the track marks Shai Sevin’s first approach to Drill music after years rooted in traditional Hip-Hop songwriting and storytelling.
Inspired during a studio session with producer Skxlz — known for his work on Choze’s D.I.Y album and Drill production collective Project X — the record came together instinctively inside Logic Pro X, with Shai writing and arranging the song line by line from a minimal loop concept.
Rather than imitate the genre, “NDD” approaches Drill from a place of appreciation and respect while still maintaining Shai’s own lyrical identity and perspective.
