After first getting his start in
New York's Hip-Hop scene, while performing at legendary venues such as
Wetlands and Nuyorican Poets Café, the Peruvian native, Eff Yoo,
sharpened his craft through street cyphers as well as the now infamous,
Rikers Island Battles, all while being employed by the now defunct,
Rawkus Records. Through these experiences, Eff gained the necessary
knowledge and connections necessary to navigate throughout the industry,
eventually gaining affiliation to the super group, Broken Home, as well
as Brooklyn's notorious, Lo-Life's crew. Artistically, Eff credits his
influence to rappers such as Nas, MF DOOM, Hector Lavoe and even the
likes of Radiohead, Bob Dylan, and Sade, all of which allow him to stand
apart from most of the street rapper’s of today’s era.
Drawing inspiration from various works in the Bible, Eff Yoo's latest effort, Papa Dios,
is the result of blending various parables, with gritty street raps
street raps, over triumphant instrumentals, all produced by Chi-Town
beatsmith, Rediculus. Concept albums, however, are common ground for the
Queen's raised emcee, whose previous titles include, Legend of the Gnomesword, and the Donald Goines inspired, Bodega Businessman. Eff Yoo has also recently unveiled his collaborative project, They Came On Horseback,
with Godilla, of Battle Axe Warriors fame; their efforts led to having
the album chart amongst iTunes' Top Ten Independent Titles, upon its
release.
Sonically, Eff Yoo’s blend of braggadocios rhymes, intellect and imagination bring shine to, Papa Dios. Whereas
some tracks, such as the album’s opener, “The First Power," followed
by, “Lust In Eden,” give off a more laid back vibe, others such as the
cinematic "This is the End," and "Don't Blame the Messengers," prove
that Eff isn't afraid to deliver his wrath to the critics and haters.
Combined, the ten track offering bravely showcase Eff's lyrical depth
and poetic genius. Papa Dios includes guest features from the
likes of Tragedy Khadafi, Thirstin Howl III, Nems, Spit Gemz, Born
Unique, and Godilla, among others, and is now available for stream via
AudioMack, and SoundCloud, and can be purchased through Bandcamp for $7,
