Born and raised in East Germany, Jonas Oertel, aka Jmo423, uses his hip hop roots to produce a distinctive and spiritually rhythmic offering of songs on his Backstage EP. Verbally sparring between German and English in songs like "Staus" and "Don't Swerve," Jmo423 conveys his heartfelt talent and passion in a digestible and addictive way. Then comes a banger track like "Run it," which is loud and bodacious revealing the power of Jmo423's use of repetition.

Now making his home in Vancouver, Jonas' rhyming structure is akin to the earlier works of Travis Scott and Kendrick Lamar's Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, while the blending of the beats offers an exclusive atmosphere for every track. As we transition into the second wave of this pandemic, Jmo423's previously released cheeky but genuine track "Stash It Up," rings true in the minds of anyone affected by COVID-19.

"It's a Corona Virus-related song with a message that a lot of people lost a lot during this pandemic, but that they also gained and learned a lot too," he says.

Jmo423’s sound and lyrics aim to give people a new perspective while tackling the sensitive topics some might be afraid to discuss. He's an artist that wears his heart on his sleeve and is not afraid to use his wordsmithing abilities to make people think.
