In a time of both visual and musical maximalism, sometimes the idea of “less is more” can truly resonate. At least, that’s certainly the case when it comes to “Selfie (All I Need),” the new music video and single from multi-talented Staten Island artist the Last American B-Boy.
The Boonie Mayfield-produced track just barely runs longer than 90 seconds, but that’s enough for the New York rapper/videographer to showcase his talents. As much, though, he keeps things extremely low-key here while staying true to the concept of a “selfie.”
Yes, that means the camera stays directly on the Last American B-Boy, who spits a series of clever and personal bars over the sample-heavy instrumental. It makes for a viewing experience that’s genuine and raw, two qualities any artist would love to have associated with their work.
You can watch the “Selfie” video now via Facebook, where the visuals have taken a life of their own and amassed nearly 70k views organically. He’s also released the audio for the quick-hitting track through his newly established imprint, American B-Boy (via EMPIRE Distribution), which is now available through iTunes and all other major digital retailers and streaming platforms.
